It was movie night last night for me at @ApolloCinemas Rhyl and as always I went in to review another film, this time it was the turn of “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” starring a good British including Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Penelope Wilton and Tom Wilkinson.

So the film follows a group of British retirees who decide that they want to retire to India which will be less expensive and more exotic for them, after seeing advertisements for the newly restored and wonderful looking Marigold Hotel, they decide this is the place for them to live in luxury and have a leisurely lifestyle.
But when they arrive at the Marigold Hotel they discover that not everything is as it seemed in the brochure and the hotel is more of a nightmare than a dream, but through this they discover that life can start all over again and it’s  a journey of life and love that brings them out of their pasts and in to a new way of life.

Now I have to admit I did miss the first few minutes of the film, which my own fault for wanting my usual Gingerbread latte and talking to Spencer Wilding (@BigSpenWilding), but it was only the opening credits, so no loss really.
I wasn’t too sure if I would enjoy a film about a bunch of OAPs moving to India, but I surprised myself as I laughed along with the rest of the audience at some rather funny parts showing off the real British sense of humour, the film in itself is a voyage of self discovery for the characters and it was an enjoyable two hours that just flew by.
With a brilliant British cast, wonderful Indian style soundtrack and comical moments, this has to one of those feel good movies that will pull in the crowds, though I do have to say that the majority of the audience watching The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel were over the age of 50, which is no bad  as it’s nice to go and see a 12A with out those annoying teenagers.
In my humble point of view, those “professional” reviewers that have moaned about this film, just want something to moan about, if you watch and listen to the audience watching the film you will clearly see people enjoying it and continuing to smile on the way out the door at the end of the film.

An enjoyable, funny and sometimes moving film that can pull at the heart-strings. If you are looking for a good British made drama then this is the film for you.
