Last night’s Cineworld Secret Screening was American Fiction and I was so pleased that we got a chance to preview the new movie.
“American Fiction” is the hilarious directorial debut of Cord Jefferson. It tackles our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright plays the lead role of Monk, a novelist who is frustrated with the establishment’s tendency to profit from “Black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own. This book takes him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness that he claims to disdain.
Starring Jeffrey Wright, American Fiction delivers a compelling and thought-provoking cinematic experience that explores the intricacies of human relationships and societal dynamics.
