From the beginning, you will see that this is a low budget horror/chiller.
The story follows two brothers Vennon Dopple (Jason Roth), who is wheelchair-bound and mute, and Top Dopple (Matt Simpson Siegel) who are homeless, begging for money and searching for somewhere to sleep.
Even though the story only follows the two brothers they do really well to keep the story going and to keep my attention and identifying with them.
The way the film is filmed is very unusual to me, not seen this style before, which is what also got my attention and very intrigued.
The special effects that are used for the devil is really good. Though overall the film would be better as a stage production in my opinion. It really had the feel of a stage production from the way it was acted and the way it was written. Also, the special effects and the way it was filmed would look fantastic on stage and probably easy to produce for the stage.
The film would have been better with a few more characters and maybe being a little bit longer. However, the other support actors who made an appearance did play a part in the outcome of the production which was good. I didn’t find it very scary and it didn’t get my adrenaline pumping but enjoyed it as a movie with a good story.
For those that do not like horrors/chiller but want to experience one that gives you a taste of them, then this is the one for you. It has all the potential to be a horror. But the way this was produced is a really good way to introduce those who are scared easily etc to the world of horror.
It did feel a bit drawn out at times, but this was to tell the background of the main characters and draw us into their lives.
Jason Roth and Matt Simpson Siegel do brilliantly keeping the audience’s attention and keep us guessing the outcome of the movie until the end, even though there are hints throughout the film.
Brilliantly acted, very good written and good for a low budget film. Doesn’t run for very long either which in my opinion sometimes is good. No point drawing a film out unnecessary and losing the attention of the viewer.
It is very hard for two actors to gain the attention of the viewer and maintain it throughout the movie, and to have one that doesn’t or can’t speak is absolutely brilliant.
Overall Antichrist Rising is a very good horror/chiller, worth a watch for those easily scared but want to experience a horror/chiller for themselves.
