We headed over to the Cineworld IMAX in Broughton yesterday to review the new movie Argylle and to finally discover the answer to the question that has been on everyone’s lips. Who is Agent Argylle?
“Argylle” is the new spy thriller film directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman). The movie follows the world’s greatest spy, Argylle, portrayed by Henry Cavill, and his team of operatives as they embark on a globe-trotting mission to stop a villainous plot that threatens world peace. Alongside Cavill, the star-studded cast includes Dua Lipa, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, and John Cena.
Don’t worry after reading that first bit of my review, I’ve not given the game away about Agent Argyle, yes Cavill does play a role but there is more to this action romp than first meets the eye, as the film is a set of layers of the real world of the one that Elle Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) who is the writer of the Argylle books and the world that she has in the books, but everything comes together as the two worlds collide.
Spies are after Elle as she seems to be able to predict what is happening in the world of spies, she becomes chased by a faction that wants to find out what she knows and use her to get a very important list. But she is protected by Aidan Wilde (Sam Rockwell) as they race around the world trying to find out what the heck is going on and who is trying to kill her!
Argylle certainly doesn’t fall short of the high-octane action and there is plenty of it to keep you entertained from start to finish there is plenty of witty humour that had me and plenty of other people laughing during the screening.
The film has been getting some flack lately and it’s a shame as Argylle is a rollercoaster ride of action, laughs and “Awwww” moments with the cat and a plot twist that you will probably see coming a mile away, but that’s not too bad just enjoy the daftness of the film and escape the world for a couple of hours!
If you are a fan of Matthew Vaughn and enjoy the Kingsman movies then you know what you are going to get with Argylle, Vaughn certainly has a distinctive style of filmmaking and it’s blatantly visible in this film, from the camera techniques in the fight sequence to crazy fight sequence towards the end of the film that reminded me so much of Eggsy’s in Kingsman: The Secret Service.
This is a movie that I enjoyed, it’s not the best movie from Vaughn, but with a great cast and plenty of comedy and action, it didn’t feel like a 2h 19m film it felt shorter.
So who is Agent Argylle, well dear readers, that is for you to find out as I don’t want to spoil the surprise for you.
Does Argylle have a ratio change in IMAX?
Sadly the IMAX release of Argylle doesn’t have any ratio changes to open up the screen, which is a shame as there were plenty of scenes that could have benefited from the Expanded Aspect Ratio, but the Argylle does look good on the IMAX screen with crisp colours and definition, plus the sound works very well with a great mix for effects and music.
Does Argylle have a post-credits scene?
Not a post-credits scene so much as a mid-credits scene and it puts Argylle in the world of the Kingsman.
The post-credit scene of Argylle movie begins in a pub named The King’s Man. This reference seems to be more than just a nod to director Vaughn’s Kingsman films, which include Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014), Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), and The King’s Man (2021), a prequel extension. It is a clear indication that the scene is linked to the Kingsman franchise.
In this scene, it is implied that it is connected to the Kingsman franchise. Louis Partridge, who looks very sophisticated with a symmetrical English face perfect for a Vaughn movie, walks to the bar and orders a complicated drink that is obviously a code. The bartender then hands him a box containing a pistol and a silencer. Partridge introduces himself as Aubrey Argylle. A note appears on the screen saying “Argylle: The First Book” will be coming to screens soon!
