Bates Motel opens for business and Norman Bates and his mother are far from normal.

Now I wasn’t totally sure on how this new show would go, but one thing that has to be said is that this is a prequel to the classic Hitchcock movie Psycho.
Thankfully this isn’t another remake and we get to meet Norma Louise Bates, Mother to the famous Psycho and we get to see the development of why Norman is possibly the way he is in the movie.
As the first episode moved along we get to see a side of his a mother that we would never have seen in the movie, suffice to say she has a certain obsessive flair to her.
Bringing the show in to present day is a great idea with some great casting of Freddie Highmore as Norman and Vera Farmiga as his mother, they are perfectly cast and they work well together on the screen.
I can image that the more the series goes along the more Norman’s mother will get more over protective and her love of keeping Norman away from girls will be more intense.
But certainly from a kitchen scene halfway through the first episode you certainly get an idea of why she hates young girls around Norman!
I’m certainly hooked from this first episode and it just has you wanting to see how Norman and his mothers relationship goes through the series, it is nice to get a back story to Psycho.

Bates Motel is certainly a powerful and sometimes shocking drama, which has you glued.
A nice twist on a classic movie and a series which will certainly have a lot of people talking about it.
