Time for another movie review folks and today we check out Black Friday starring Bruce Campbell, Devon Sawa and Michael Jai White. Being a fan of Campbell I couldn’t wait to check out this B-movie that is out on digital platforms from Signature Entertainment on the 11th of February.
Overworked, underpaid and ready for the apocalypse. It’s the biggest sale of the year and this time around the shoppers are out of their minds and out for blood. Fighting for their lives a misfit group of employees including store manager Jonathan (Bruce Campbell, Evil Dead) find themselves fighting for survival against shoppers on a murderous rampage. Also starring Devon Sawa (Final Destination) and Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite), Black Friday was written by Andy Greskoviak and directed by Casey Tebo.
There’s something strange happening in a small American town as the hardware stores get ready to open, the film kicks off with a store preparing to open its doors to the Black Friday shoppers that can’t wait to get their hands on bargains in the sales, but something unexpected arrives in the store with a strange object crashing through the roof and launches us into a fun B-movie with some great physical effects.
After the rather sinister opening, we are introduced to the staff as they make their way to the store and have no idea what they are heading into, it’s great to have an introduction to the characters as we get to see their faults and issues that they may have.
With the queue building outside “We love Toys,” you know that all hell is going to break out as the staff get ready for the doors to open. The movie has a nice steady build-up and the first part of the film is building up the staff and a great comic introduction to Campbell’s regional manager character.
Those that have seen The Army of Darkness with have a rather nostalgic feeling as Bruce Campbell is back in the hardware store, but this time his character is no Ash and as the manager of the store and his mismatch of staff have to fight for their survival against shoppers that are flesh-eating creatures, but not deadites.

When the store finally opens, all is running as smoothly as possible until a creepy moment when the shoppers start to look just not right and things start taking a turn for the worse as the strange object from the start of the film makes another appearance.
Then the shoppers start to turn and start to attack the staff and we get to see some nicely done comic moments of B-movie horror as some of the staff think that it’s only down to shoppers wanting those offers for themselves.

The cast of characters in Black Friday is a brilliant mix of those that hate their jobs and some who love their job at We Love Toys and try to keep everything running smoothly well all hell is starting to break loose on the store.
Amidst the dark humour, I have to say that I loved the physical and makeup effects in Black Friday, it’s great to see prosthetics that look great on-screen, especially when most films will opt for the CGI effects to bring a story to life. It is much like those moments of Evil Dead II, which in turn is a great nod to Bruce Campbell in the film.
Black Friday is a very tongue-in-cheek movie with many elements that had me laughing out loud and even has those WTF moments. This is certainly a movie that is fun to watch and it gets crazier as it goes along with the prosthetic and gore effects getting better as it progresses.
The movie is an enjoyable watch, crazy and coming at times, it is certainly a movie that was fun to watch and is worth checking out.
