An explained Phenomenon turns the world into complete darkness, only a small circle in Eastern Europe still has power in the new film The BlackOut: Invasion Earth as a crack squad of troops is sent to investigate in this Russian Sci-fi thriller.
I checked out the film in its original Russian format, with subtitles and I, must say as a fan of science fiction and thrillers this movie did not disappoint at all.
The movie begins just before the world is plunged into darkness, so it doesn’t take long for the action to begin. The beginning reminds a lot of Predator and the action is a lot like battle Los Angeles in the way it is filmed and the action scenes throughout the cities, however, the movie does hold it’s own with the acting and the storyline. There is also a scene that reminded me of The Fifth Element too as this movie is set in the future.
When you think it is just another alien invasion a surprise twist comes along and really makes opens the movie up.
The suspense keeps happening throughout the movie and if you look away for a moment you may loose what is happening.
It is full of action, adventure with science fiction thrown in. Even though it is quite fast-paced there was still time to watch the movie and read the subtitles.
As the troops begin their mission to protect the Earth and discover what is going on, we get to know each character and identify with them. Unlike other movies where we are introduced to characters and then the action begins, this movie does both at the same time and it works really well.
The special effects are fantastic and the action scenes are spectacular. It really is not what I expected from a sci-fi movie in the way it kept me guessing to what is going on and who is to blame. When I thought I guessed it there was another surprise twist, which is brilliant.
Starring Lukerya Ilyashenko, Pyotr Fyodorov and Artyom Tkachenko this movie really does deliver all the excitement and suspense that is expected from a sci-fi thriller.
If you are a fan of science fiction thrillers then I do recommend you check this out. Even if the thought of subtitles put you off like with most movies, I kept with all the action while reading the subtitles so that was not an issue.
Brilliantly written, Brilliant cast and fantastic movie. I really hope there is a sequel.
Who is destroying all life on Earth? How long can the last outpost of mankind survive? Only one way to find out. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.
