Good grief where do the years go to, can you believe that it’s 30 years since the release on the iconic 80s movie The Breakfast Club, neither could we!
The Breakfast Club Synopsis
Five high school students from different walks of life endure a Saturday detention under a power-hungry principal (Paul Gleason). The disparate group includes rebel John (Judd Nelson), princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), outcast Allison (Ally Sheedy), brainy Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) and Andrew (Emilio Estevez), the jock. Each has a chance to tell his or her story, making the others see them a little differently — and when the day ends, they question whether school will ever be the same.
In celebration of the film’s 30th anniversary, SXSW 2015 hosted the world premiere of the newly restored version of THE BREAKFAST CLUB.

1,300 fans watched the beloved John Hughes’ classic in a new pop of colour on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the iconic Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas. Cast members Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy were also attendance for a special Q&A prior to the screening. Local elementary school children from the Barton Hills Choir serenaded the cast and audience with their rendition of “Don’t You (Forget About Me).”
Directed by John Hughes (Home Alone), this quintessential 80s teen movie follows the tale of five high school students who meet in Saturday detention. When detention starts, they are simply The Jock, The Princess, The Brain, The Criminal and The Basket Case, but by the afternoon they have become closer than any of them could have imagined. Bonding over common disdain for peer pressure and parental expectations, they become The Breakfast Club.
The Breakfast Club explores the pressure put on teenagers to fit into social cliques, as well as the lofty expectations of their parents, teachers, and other authority figures. A must-have for fans of the 80s or teen comedy; critics still consider this one of the greatest high school films, as well as one of Hughes’ most memorable and recognisable works.
This teen movie introduced Molly Ringwald (Sixteen Candles), Emilio Estevez (Young Guns and The Mighty Ducks), Anthony Michael Hall (Weird Science), Judd Nelson (St Elmo’s Fire and New Jack City) and Ally Sheedy (St Elmo’s Fire) to the world. Originally unleashed in 1985, the Blu-Ray™ edition will mark the 30th anniversary.
