The nominees for the 24th annual British Academy Cymru Awards have recently been announced, those of you looking for a special night of glitz and glamour are in for a treat at St David’s Hall on Sunday 27 September as the awards honouring excellence in broadcasting and production within film and television in Wales. Tickets for the prestigious ceremony are now on sale!
Cardiff’s own BBC Radio 1 / Radio Cymru presenter Huw Stephens will be hosting the event.
Drama programmes and features lead the way with Dylan Thomas biopic Set Fire to the Stars leading the way with an incredible seven nominations, whilst Da Vinci’s Demons aren’t far behind with six. Also, Doctor Who, Y Gwyll/Hinterland and Swansea City FC documentary Jack to a King all have five each.
Director of BAFTA Cymru, Hannah Raybould, said: “It’s been an outstanding year for television and film talent working in Wales. Across all categories we’ve seen an excellent breadth of programmes and individuals represented – in both languages, and from those starting out in their careers to the very experienced. We look forward to working with our partners and sponsors on another wonderful night of celebration.”
The ceremony will feature special guest performances and celebrity award presenters representing the best of the UK’s creative and media industries.
Huw Stephens added: “The British Academy Cymru Awards is a celebration of all the hard work that goes into making some incredible programmes and films…The nominations are of such high quality, and it’s great to see English and Welsh programmes given the recognition they deserve. On the night, the Awards will be full of the stars, from in front of and behind the cameras, as well as those beginning in the industry, and of course the fans of the nominated shows are very welcome to come and join in the party.”
