Chris Erasmus’ New Song “We Had It Made” Gives New Perspective to Relationships of the Past

London-based singer-songwriter Chis Erasmus’ new song “We Had It Made” is a beautiful ballad to a past relationship. The track opens with a mesmerising piano line that transitions into a muted acoustic guitar with the entering of Erasmus’ stunning vocal. Although the song has moments that are a bit more built-up instrumentally, there is something to be found in the fact that it stays primarily acoustic throughout. Featuring a soft female background vocal, the storyline of two lovers falling out of a once-perfect relationship is mirrored perfectly in the instrumentation.

The slow nature of this song fits the message of the song like a glove, yet it was not always how the song was intended to be. Chris states that when writing the song, “It initially started up tempo, but it felt like it wanted to call into the darkness of lament.” This discovery of a new sound for “We Had It Made” was found alongside producer Scott Jacoby during the recording process that took place at Powerstation in Connecticut.

“A lot of the song came when myself and Scott Jacoby sat in the studio and were playing with the backing vocal options” shares Erasmus. “Suddenly the song changed from up tempo to us discovering this beautiful searching sound.”

The two make quite the perfect pair in the studio, and luckily for listeners, this is not the only track Scott Jacoby has worked on with Erasmus. Jacoby’s production can be seen on Erasmus’ earlier 2025 releases as well as his 2024 release “Shotgun.” Erasmus states, “I love working with Scott”, and it’s safe to say, we love them working together too!

“We Had It Made” Is Erasmus’ third release of the year and perfectly contrasts his prior release “Camden Town” which highlighted a more vibrant, instrumentally fuller sound and “Jack’s Trade” which has a darker, more moody feel to it. Showcasing a more stripped-back, emotional side to himself with “We Had It Made” proves that Chris Erasmus can truly do it all.
