John Thacker stars as Joe Lambert in Coven of Evil, a young journalist. attempting to make a name for himself by writing articles on witchcraft. After reporting that the strange ritual practices of a Wiccan Coven are simply a ruse for sexual exploitation, he is confronted by Evie (Samantha Moorhouse), the High Priestess of the Coven. Evie invites Joe to come and witness the rituals for himself.
Upon travelling to the Coven’s lair, Joe finds an isolated and foreboding farmhouse, avoided by superstitious locals. Once there, he discovers that his own desires take on an altogether darker nature as he is drawn towards Alice(Laura Peterson), an innocent young girl whose presence in the house is somewhat of a mystery.
Joe is forbidden from seeing Alice by Zander (Craig R Mellor), the Coven’s psychopathic High Priest. He begins to suspect that Alice is being held prisoner by the Coven against her will. As Joe attempts to uncover the truth and rescue Alice, he is drawn into the bizarre and deadly world of modern-day witchcraft.
Also starring Tracy Gabbitias, Micky Satiar, Jaco Kain Presott, Laura Ellen Wilson, Brian Woodward and Jayne Buchanan.
The movie is set on a rural farm and the attractive scenery really help to build the suspense. The cast is really believable and they do their best to give the movie some teeth. Craig R Mellor is really believable as an evil and controlling guy, as he stars as the high priest of the coven. John Thacker is brilliant as the young journalist as he investigates the coven and discovers what is really going on.
After I saw the trailer for this movie I was really looking forward to viewing it. As the movie begins you can see that it is going to be a low-budget British movie, which I have grown to like over the years.
I wish I could say this movie got my attention and got me gripped throughout, but I am afraid not. The scenery is probably the best thing about the movie as it is set in a beautiful rural area, and of course, the high priest speaking in a welsh accent at the beginning was a bonus.
