It was another Cineworld Unlimited Screening recently and we headed over to Llandudno to check out the preview of Dark Waters, the new film starring Mark Ruffalo as Bob Bilott, a corporate defence attorney, who takes on an environmental lawsuit against one of the biggest chemical companies, Dupont, to exposes a lengthy history of pollution.
First of all, I have to say that Dark Waters is a change from the usual movies that I’ve been watching lately and it’s great that Cineworld had opted to show such a powerful and thought-provoking film about the environment and the battle the companies that think they can do what they want with our precious planet and think that it’s not a problem to destroy the world ur future generations have to cope with when they have gone.
After seeing the trailer for Dark Waters a while back I was interested in seeing the film and I loosely remember in the news all those years ago about the fear of using those Teflon pans from Dupont, so when Cineworld announced that the film would be the Unlimited Screening I jumped at the chance to check it out and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed by the film.
This is a film that I found myself getting pulled in deeper and deeper as it progressed, the thought of something that is invincible and deadly being dumped in landfills is so shocking that it has you thinking why the hell do these big companies do this, we have to live on the planet so why on hell would they poison it! Not only that, they knew what they were doing and as the evidence builds over the years, it’s clear that sometimes money is all that is needed to hide things.
But thanks to Bob Billot (Ruffalo) and his years of fighting and still fighting to this day, something is finally being done. Dark Waters is certainly a film that shocks when it comes to what these big companies are doing. It’s also a film that pulled in the audience for our Unlimited Screening and although t was in the smaller of the screens in Llandudno, it almost packed out with all ages, after all the subject matter is something affects us all.
It was a rather quiet screening as well, only a couple of people talked through the film, which is very annoying, but what really annoyed me was a couple of people checking their social media through the film, there is nothing worse than a glow of a phone in a darkened cinema to distract you from the film!
But overall it seemed to go down very well and nobody walked out, which you do get sometimes with the unlimited screenings. I found Dark Waters a fascinating film, Mark Ruffalo certainly brought the real-life character to the big screen, plus the film has cameos from the real Bob Billot along with other people that were involved.
If you like your true life movies then this is certainly one to check out and make you think, we only have one home with planet Earth, please let’s not destroy it!
