Last night we were treated to another Cineworld Unlimited Screening and this time it was a chance for an early screening of Dream Scenario starring Nicolas Cage.
Hapless family man Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage) finds his life turned upside down when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams. But when his nighttime appearances take a nightmarish turn, Paul is forced to navigate his newfound stardom, in this wickedly entertaining comedy from writer-director Kristoffer Borgli (Sick of Myself) and producer Ari Aster.
Now I have to say I’m a huge fan of Nicolas Cage and I’ve been intrigued by this new movie since first getting a glimpse of the first-look image from Dream Scenario, so I was over the moon when I found out that Cineworld would be bringing us the movie for Unlimited Members.
Over the years I’ve seen plenty of A24 releases and they used to be quite hit-and-miss with me, but lately, they have been getting better Dream Scenario is certainly one of the better movies they have released and it was as weird as I expected it to be.
The strangeness of the story and the outcome of the film is what makes it a film that took me in from the very start and had me gripped by the weirdness as a few people are dreaming about Paul (Cage) but then it leads to what can only be described as a dream pandemic!
Paul is harmless in the dreams with him just after being seen or walking in and out of the dreams and the dreams are weird. As more of his class get the dreams he asks them about all the dreams they are having and we are taken on a strange journey of the dreams that they are having which leads to us finding out more about how Paul is appearing in these strange dreams.
As more and more dreams about Paul become apparent, Paul is contacted by Trent (Michael Cera) who is an executive at Thoughts who wants to use Paul as a form of promotion to make money from Paul being in people’s dreams.
But it’s not long before the dreams become nightmares and what seemed to be something a little harmless to start becomes violent and terrifying for those that are now having nightmares featuring Paul.
I thoroughly enjoyed Nicolas Cage’s performance as Paul, he brought the character to life on the screen very well and it was nice to see his character develop from start to finish, there is also some dark comedy in Dream Scenario that works well with the content. The film moves at a rather steady pace but it works well for what is needed.
Some of the dream sequences work very well and you get to see a couple of clips of those in the trailer. If you are looking for something a little different to see in the cinema then Dream Scenario is certainly a film in that category, it’s perfect for fans of Cage and for films that just take you on a strange journey.
Dream Scenario is in Cinemas from the 10th of November.
