In a new Exclusive Interview on Blazing Minds ahead of Horror-on-Sea I got a chance to ask Director Dean Ferris a few questions about the film ‘Soul Train‘
Soul Train will play at Horror-on-Sea on Saturday 18th January at 10.00am.
Q. Your film has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival. Can you tell us what we can expect from the film?
A. You can expect an eerie experience into the unknown.
Q. What were some of your influences for the look and style of the film?
A. The writer Craig and I took influences for Soul Train from classic tales of horror; Ghost Stories for Christmas, in particular The Signalman.
Q. What were some of your favourite moments during filming?
A. Having the actors take control of the characters, seeing everyone focused and having fun. Using the surrounding environment to help push the story forwards.
Q. Did you experience any issues during filming?
A. A train broke down in front of shot.
Q. What makes it stand out as something different in the horror genre?
A. It’s simplicity in the setting and story, combined with the mysterious atmosphere.
Q. What do you hope people take away after watching the film?
A. A feeling of fear, mystery, questions and thoughts.
Q. Do you have any other projects which you are currently working on?
A. We are filming a short film called Goat Skull. We are also in the writing stages on another dialogue driven short horror.
Q. If someone was looking to direct their own film what advice would you give them?
A. Surround yourself with great people, practice, have fun and keep it simple.
