We are very pleased to bring you some movie news today as Silly Wee Films are thrilled to reveal the official trailer for Faithful from Writer Fraser Coull (Cops and Monsters, Night Is Day) and Director Lucy Linger ( Yoga In Isolation, Jess and Maggie)
Faithful is a heart-warming live-action short film which focuses on the evolution of a young Scottish girl, a mythical faerie Cù-Sìth, and a little-known Scottish folktale.
Vaila (played by Lily McGuire in her screen debut) sets out on a dangerous mission to find the mythical Cù-Sìth (pronounced koo-she) – dogs of the underworld who hunt and drag people through the portal of death. Following the death of her Mother, Vaila blames herself and hopes to trick the dogs into finding her Mother and bringing her back to the world of the living.
Coming dangerously close to death herself, Vaila manages to befriend one Cù-Sìth, and with his help, must battle the rest of his pack, find the portal to the other world – and make sure her Father (played by Greg McHugh) doesn’t discover her new “dog” or that she’s out of bed after lights out!
Faithful was filmed earlier in 2024 in Scotland and is currently in the final stages of post-production, with the end credit song ‘In The Wee Hours’ by Josie Duncan being recorded in the next few weeks, the film will then head into its festival run in early 2025. Faithful will then be shown on Scotland’s STV Player streaming service before venturing into the wider world.
Just in case you weren’t familiar with the legendary Cu-Sith Folklore, here’s some information for you.
The Cù-Sìth is a spectral hound from Scottish folklore that haunts the Scottish Highlands – its name essentially means Fairy Dog. The Cù-Sìth was feared due to the belief that it was a harbinger of death – much like the Grim Reaper.
Although mostly a silent hunter the Cù-Sìth would sometimes let out three blood-curdling howls that could be heard for miles around. Those who heard the howls would need to reach a place of safety before the third howl, or they would be overcome with fear and die from sheer terror.
The cast features Lily McGuire as Vaila (in her feature debut), Gary Hollywood as Campbell (Mrs Brown’s Boys, Taggart, Neds), Kimberley Nixon as Annabelle (Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. The Tuckers, The Salisbury Poisonings), Juliet Cadzow as Audrey (River City, Balamory, The Wicker Man), Greg McHugh as Michael (Fresh Meat, A Discovery of Witches, Man Vs Bee) and Ethan Docherty as Harrison (in his feature debut)
