For fans of the TV Ghosts, we are very pleased to bring you a first look at the upcoming new movie, as Lionsgate UK has announced that GHOSTS: The Possession of Button House will be released in cinemas nationwide across the UK and Ireland on Friday, 23 October 2026. Halloween half-term is going to be especially haunting this year as the award-winning BBC comedy GHOSTS is brought to the big screen.
The plot is under wraps as filming continues at West Horsley Place and at locations across the South East of England.
Lionsgate will release in the UK and Ireland, and BBC Studios is handling global sales. BBC Film presents in association with BBC Studios, a Monumental Production.
GHOSTS: The Possession of Button House is directed by Simon Hynd and stars Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond, Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe. The GHOSTS writers and creators, Matthew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond are Executive Producers. Jill Forbes is Executive Producer for Monumental. The executive producer for BBC Film is Eva Yates. Lionsgate will distribute in the UK with Marie-Claire Benson and Emma Berkofsky as Executive Producers. BBC Studios will distribute worldwide, with Richard Acton as Executive Producer.
Produced by Monumental Television, GHOSTS ran for five series on BBC One, with the final episode watched by 7.2 million viewers. It was the most-watched comedy series of 2023 in the UK. The hit US version of the series is currently in its fifth season, produced by Lionsgate Television in partnership with CBS Studios and BBC Studios LA, with a sixth season already commissioned. Internationally, the format has now been licensed in six territories, most recently in Czechia, with local versions also produced in France, Germany, Australia and Greece. The series and format are distributed by BBC Studios.
