Arkansas rapper GK Leonitis follows his highly impressive single, “Aqua,” with his latest release, “Pressure.” This intricately weaved tapestry of lyrical prose blends metaphor and imagery to capture the
theme and allure of the finer things in life.
“Pressure” couples a slow melodic tempo with deeply syncopated lyrics that captures the downbeats helping to shape each phrase with clarity and deliberateness. As the rap lyrics accentuate these concepts, GK contrasts the verses with emotive expressions that connect the listener to the beat.
This subtle, whoo, or yeah, is placed expertly between each cadence to assist in releasing the tension, which he is quite good at implementing. What strikes me, and I feel listeners should pay close attention to, is the way the vocals have a Southern drawl when the beat slows, yet channels the more complex Los Angeles vibe as the chorus relates to what brings the narrative and meaning behind the title “Pressure.”
The deep bass funk stands out quite clearly against the higher register vocals and the synth melody. In addition, the allotted headroom allows “Pressure” to be played at high volumes without dropping out or muddling the overtones that carry out across the listening space.
Although the track is short, under two minutes, “Pressure” is an excellent fit for a commercial urban radio station or dance club. With its drawn-out tempo, audiences can catch the groove and jive out while
