You may have seen us posting about the new releases from J.R. Harbidge recently such as the new singles, videos and the announcement of the release of Long Black River, today we bring a review of the new album.
I’d been waiting in anticipation for the new album and when the CD arrived I was excited to get to listen to Long Black River, the CD comes in a cardboard gatefold package very much like those early days of CD singles, the front of the cover is adorned with an amazing piece of artwork by Stuart Dilley and the inside is the musician information for the tracks.

This is an album that will have you listening to all the tracks with excitement from the opening track Wrong Side of the Tracks to the last track Long Black River, each track has the power to grab your attention with its superb guitar work, amazing sounding organ work and let’s not forget the brilliant lyrics and vocal from JR Harbidge, this is certainly an album that has moved into my top 10 albums of this year so far.
It’s hard to put my finger on a favourite track for Long Black River as each one has its own distinctive sound, there are no fillers in this release, although I have to say that Side By Side had that Pink Floyd opening feels to me, it reminded me of the album Wish You Were Here and that’s no bad thing as the track works brilliantly and I did find myself putting it on repeat to listen to it again.

The production that has gone into the album is great, the CD sound amazing on a big sound system and likewise, it also works brilliantly on headphones via the trusty iPod Classic, Long Black River is an album that not only has your toes tapping but after a few listens you will be singing along to the tracks.
If you are looking for some great music to kick back with and enjoy then you really can’t go wrong with Long Black River, I’m looking forward to more album releases from J.R. Harbidge, but for now it’s time to enjoy this album even more.
Long Black River is joy to listen to
