After some mixed reviews of the latest Doctor Who Christmas Special with Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor Who, now the Daily Mirror Tabloid has reported that she will be leaving the BBC TV show after the next series.
The Mirror has reported that the actor’s departure is being kept under wraps, but is an open secret on set. Whittaker is the 13th actor and the first woman to play the beloved British character.
A spokesperson for the BBC has said, “We won’t be commenting on any speculation around Jodie’s future on the show,“.
It’s not unusual for an actor to leave Doctor Who after three seasons as several of the other actors have done the same, and it does seem to be becoming the norm when playing the Doctor.
The Mirror has also reported also states that Whittaker’s co-stars Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole are set to leave the show, but that showrunner Chris Chibnall will remain.
Fans watching the New Year’s Day episode were treated to a post credits scene after the show with an introduction to new character Dan who is being played by John Bishop.
Shortly after the introduction of the character, Bishop took to his Twitter account announcing that he has, “loved the last few months on set and I am looking forward to working with the brilliant team in 2021”.
Filming for the news series with John Bishop had started in November 2020 and although it has been mentioned that the show will be three episodes shorter than usual, mainly down to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the new series of Doctor Who will be on our screens later this year.

So now it’s a waiting game to find out what will happen, will Jodie Whittaker be leaving her role as Doctor Who? If she does who will be taking on the iconic role?
