Joe and Jake at Rhyl Race For Life and News of Coast 2 Coast

Sunday saw the Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life taking place at the Rhyl Events Arena, the Race for Life is a series of women-only events that raises money for research into all 200 types of cancer, over 2000 women took part in the Rhyl event, these are not regular athletes but normal ladies who are running to raise money, many with individual and personal stories of how cancer has affected them or someone they know or love.

The Rhyl Race for Life was opened by Eurovision stars, Joe and Jake, they took the stage to perform their Eurovision song, ‘You’re Not Alone’, the audience of runners and bystanders absolutely loved Joe and Jake’s performance and were dancing and singing away with them. then proceeded to offer some words of encouragement to the runners, before starting the race with the starter horn and setting the fundraisers on their way.

After a short break and a warm-up performance for the runners, Joe and Jake returned to the stage to offer some words of encouragement to the runners, before starting the race with the starter horn and setting the fundraisers on their way, bu the runners were so keen to get going they started running just before the boys could start with the air-horns.

Joe and Jake will also be appearing at the Coast 2 Coast summer music festival in Rhyl, which takes place from Wednesday 27th July until Saturday 30th July, the event will feature a diverse line-up of acts in a Big Top by the seaside, the first event of its kind, tickets are selling fast! The Jongleurs comedy night on Wednesday 27th July will feature performances by Zoe Lyons, Steve Williams, Javier Jarquin and Smug Roberts, followed by Joe and Jake and Bjorn Again on Thursday 28th July. Friday 29th July will see Jason Donovan, Popvox Choir

Sian Davies of Denbighshire County Council said “Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is incredibly popular and always draws a huge crowd and we are delighted to be able to host such a worthy cause here in Rhyl. It’s great that local boy Joe and Jake are coming to start the Race as they are also such a key attraction for the Coast2Coast Festival in July along with UB40, Jason Donovan and Rhydian. They are certain to go down a treat.”

Blazing Minds Interviews Joe and Jake

After the race had started and the runners went on their way, I caught up with the boys backstage for an exclusive chat with them about Eurovision, Coast 2 Coast and of course to find out if they could give me some tasty snippets on any new releases. This is the full unabridged interview with the boys.

Karen: Hi guys, thank you for taking the time to chat with me after your performance.

Joe and Jake: You’re welcome, thank you.

Karen: A brilliant performance this morning out there in the Rhyl Arena. What made you decide to work together?

Jake: Well, we were both on The Voice two years ago

Joe: Two

Jake: Yeah it is isn’t it?

Joe: That’s made isn’t, sorry carry on, that’s just quick isn’t it! Carry on.

Jake: So yeah (both laugh), we were on the voice two years ago now and we both went on as solo acts and just on The Voice we hit it off straight away, we just became friends and, you know, once the show was over for both of us, we met as friends mostly, but because we were musicians we started working on some music and we just kept progressing and progressing and progressing as a duo.

Joe: It wasn’t really something we planned.

Jake: Yeah it wasn’t a planned thing. It was very spontaneous.

Joe: It just clicked and it happened and it really worked and it wasn’t like we had just got together, it was like right, let’s talk about becoming a duo, it happened and were going to continue to work as a duo, because that’s what we want to do, we enjoy each company and we’re best mates and just enjoying out time at the moment.

Joe: For now (Joe and Jake laugh)

Jake: I get so emotional at these things (laughing)

Karen: Coast 2 Coast is coming up in July, what are you looking forward to the most about performing at the event?

Joe: Obviously it’s a great event, there’s a load of good names there, it’s going to be lovely for me as well, today was actually my first performance back on home soil as well, (Jake says Awww), it’s always nice to perform here, I’ve performed in Rhyl before as well, so it’s lovely. It’s just nice for us obviously especially after the back of something as big as Eurovision to still get a chance to come home and perform here and for Jake to sort of see my home.

Jake: Of Course, of course, I mean I’ve been to Ruthin before, but I think that’s been the extent of my knowledge (Joe laughs and says, Ruthin), Ruthin, Ruthin, so it is, it’s nice to see Wales.

Karen: Anything lined up especially for the fans during Coast 2 Coast?

Joe: We couldn’t possibly say but erm …

Jake: They are joining in my birthday celebrations.

Joe Laughs

Jake: My birthday is three days previous to Coast 2 Coast.

Joe: We’ve been working on loads of songs and stuff, so you never know we might give people a bit of a tease on the day. Which I’m sure will bring them some new music.

Karen: Is there an album in the works?

Jake: We are working on second single now with Sony, which is obviously incredible and we can’t wait for everybody to hear it. So we are, we’re very excited and looking forward to it.

Joe: They are good, we’ve been working on a number of songs, but you know, I think the one that we are hoping to release over the summer, is … a great song, it’s been written by a big name as well, so.

Karen: So keeping it close to the chest

Jake: Surely can we say who wrote it?

(Joe Whistles)

Jake: Or!
