Last night I finally got around to seeing Jurassic World and there was only one option to go for when seeing such a massive movie and that was to go to see the movie at the Cineworld IMAX in Broughton.
A little while back I was honoured to have an invite from the cinema to join other great guests and unlimited ticket holders to the gala opening on the new IMAX cinema and after seeing TomorrowLand on the huge screen, the excitement was set for Jurassic World.
After meeting up with fellow Blazing Minds writer, Phil Woods, we grabbed our tickets and then headed over for a coffee and catch up at Costa, sadly the Starbucks still isn’t open in the cinema’s foyer yet.
Soon it was time to get back to Cineworld to watch Jurassic World in the only way that it should be watched.
Now the IMAX screen seats 300 people and when I say the room was full, you better believe it, there were probably around 250 people in for the 3D IMAX screening last night and who says that, “Cinemas are too expensive“.
You are given your 3D glasses on the way in to the screen, we found our seats and got ready for the evening, the trailers started, ooo Mission: Impossible then Star Wars, now that is something we need to see in 3D IMAX.
Jurassic World With Damn Big Dinosaurs!
So after the incident 22 years ago, a new bigger and better Jurassic Park is opened with not only the dinosaurs that everyone may know, such as the faster pack hunting Raptors but also new genetically modified dinosaurs that you just know that nothing good will come from the experimenting of creating new breeds!
With the park looking amazing with its enclosures and monorail moving from place to place, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond, but after 10 years of operation and the decline in the visitor numbers, the park managers need to fulfil a corporate mandate, so a new attraction is created to re-spark visitors’ interest, which backfire in the most horrific of ways!
While we may have all been fascinated and shocked by the look of the original Jurassic Park movie, with those big dinosaurs roaming the land and bringing to life something that we thought we would never see, that feel isn’t the same with Jurassic World, but that is probably down to the fact that we’ve seen them already.
What really makes your draw drop for Jurassic World is seeing the movie in 3D on an IMAX screen, the sheer size of the screen puts you right in the middle of the action and gives you that unnerving feeling with the size of the dinosaurs on the screen, the genetically engineered Indominus Rex, had most of the audience jumping and clinging on to their partners as it came out of the 3-4 story 4K cinema screen.
Not only that but the power of the 7.1 surround sound made me feel every massive thud as the Indominus Rex crashed its feet to the floor, with the bass from the system sending vibrations through the seats, not to mention the roar, that was like a Boeing 747 taking off, sent shivers up and down you spine.
All the power of the sound, 4K vision and 3D adds to the sheer fun of Jurassic World, it may not have that wow factor we first had back in 1993, but it certainly has you on the edge of your seat as the park goes from a family fun place to be, to a hunting ground for the Indominus Rex and a horde of flying Pterodactyls and other flying hybrids.
Jurassic World really isn’t for the faint-hearted, this is a movie that will have small children being terrified, heck even adults were jumping out of their skin during last nights showing, so be warned the movie will scare you, but it will also have you laughing at the same time, but don’t let your guide down!
Chris Pratt is certainly cast well as Owen, chief wrangler and some might say “alpha” to the Raptors and the scene with him in the pen trying to rescue a worker that has fallen in, is a nerve-wrecking moment, as the Raptors communicate in the terrifying way that we first heard in the first movie, remember the kitchen scene.
Another thing that is great about Jurassic World is the Easter Eggs that  are in the movie and there are so many of them, I noticed a few during last nights IMAX showing, such as the use of JOhn Williams superb Jurassic Park theme, the vintage merchandise, the gates to the park, Winston’s steakhouse (a nod to Stan Winston), Dr. Henry Wu (played by B.D. Wong) was one of the original scientists, the Dilophosaurus (look out for that one) and there are loads more, that I’m not going to mention, look for those yourselves.
Overall Thoughts of Jurassic World
I was and still am a big fan of Jurassic Park and 22 years after the original movie that had my jaw on the floor at the time, it is great to see that with today’s technology taking it the movie further than it could have at the time it was made, Jurassic World has to be seen in 3D and IMAX, it gives you the true feeling of being there with these gigantic creatures that not roar out of the screen at you.
It is such a terrible shame that Richard Attenborough isn’t still alive, it would have been great to see him in it with a cameo, as it would to have had some of the other cast as well. Jurassic World is a movie that is doing extremely well, I would recommend it, but if you are going to see it and you have an IMAX cinema near you, go see it on that, experience the sheer effect that a 4K 3D IMAX can deliver with a film such as Jurassic World.
