Another night at Cineworld and another Unlimited Screening, this time with a chance to preview Juror #2, the new movie directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Nicholas Hoult.
“Juror #2” follows Justin Kemp, a family man portrayed by Hoult, who is serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial. As he navigates the case, he faces a significant moral dilemma that could influence the jury’s verdict, potentially convicting or freeing the accused killer.
I’ve always been partial to courtroom dramas, so when I saw that Juror #2 was coming up as a Cineworld Unlimited Screening I grabbed the chance to get my ticket and to check out the movie. With all the latest movies that I’ve been seeing with the horrors and Sci-Fi etc., this would be a refreshing change to sit back and just take in the drama cited as Eastwood’s last movie before his retirement, so I had high expectations.
With a movie like this, I wanted to go in not knowing that much about it and have been trying to avoid the trailers so that I could find out what was going on myself, although I did catch the tail end of a trailer nothing was spoilt for me for the almost 2-hour movie.
Without going into too much detail and not spoiling the overall plot of Juror #2, this film is not just about the trial of a suspected murderer it is also about the dilemmas that the jurors may face and in particular the 2nd juror played by Nicholas Hoult. There is much more to the film than you may first perceive and as the story moves along we learn that Justin Kemp (Hoult) has more to do with the crime than we may have first thought.
The beauty of this courtroom drama is the idea that Kemp has to make difficult decisions that will not only change his life but also the outcome of the trial of the one that is on trial for murder. The story flows brilliantly with some flashback moments that start adding things into place and giving you that thought of what would you do if you were in the same position that Kemp is in during the trial.
I found myself getting pulled into the story moments after the start of Juror #2 and the further on in the film the deeper I found myself getting into the the film.
The cast for Juror #2 is superb with Nicholas Hoult bringing us a wonderful performance as Justin Kemp, Toni Collette is great to watch as attorney Faith Killebrew as she tries to fight for the victim but soon changes her thoughts on the outcome of the trial and has doubts.
Clint Eastwood has certainly brought us another wonderfully directed film and it’s sad to see him retiring from the industry, but what a movie to retire on. This is a movie that will certainly have you changing your thoughts on the victim in this film and will have you on the edge of your seat.
The film also looks amazing, the cinematography by Yves Bélanger from the dark rainy night to the courtroom works so well and has so much detail. The music by Mark Mancina is a joy to listen to and certainly brings depth to the scenes during the film.
