Last Vegas An OAP Take on The Hangover!

So dear readers, my return to reviewing in 2014 at the Vue Cinema in Rhyl has begun with Last Vegas.

When I say that the film is an OAP take on the movie The Hangover, I am being a little unfair, four friends get together in Las Vegas for a bachelor party (stag night) for the last the last of the four to get married and he’s marrying someone who is just in their 30s.

So here we have a group of guys that have been friends for almost 60 years, sorting out their differences, getting to know each other a bit more and just having fun over a weekend in Las Vegas.

There are those obligatory old age gags and a few laughs from a cast of well-known actors for the main roles, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro and Kevin Kline, throw in Mary Steenburgen to spice things up between De Niro and Douglas and there you have it.

Personally for me, I think the cast actually saved the movie from been a bit of a let down, yet again with trailers for films, the trailer for this one seems to show all the good bits and then the film becomes a collection of “fillers” that becomes in itself an extended trailer.

The four actors do hold everything together nicely though, Douglas seems perfectly cast as the older guy marrying the younger woman, Freeman as the father that is molly coddled by his son, Kline as someone who seems to have lost a little something in his marriage and finally De Niro as the bitter one who has recently lost the love of his life and doesn’t seem to think there is much more in life to go on for.

Last Vegas is comical in parts and does make you realise that we are all getting old and there is always time to grab on to that last spark of life and have fun and romance.

An enjoyable movie, maybe not for the younger audiences, but certainly one for mid-life and older viewers.
