Fixer is a gritty indie crime drama written by Phil Lyndon and directed by Sam Mason-Bell. It stars Patrick Oliver, Phil Lyndon, Chris Mills, Kevin Cordell, Kate Kneafsey, and Martin W. Payne. When a member of parliament is up for re-election, he enlists his ‘Fixer’ to keep his reckless son out of trouble to ensure his victory.
This is a very unique and unusual film. It’s not the normal horror-based content we’re used to seeing from Trash Arts. It’s a bit of a slow burn, focusing more on storytelling than anything else. There’s some awesome camera work and the editing is solid. The costumes are great and the characters are dark and unforgiving. However, the dialogue is probably the best thing about it all.
The acting is hit or miss and the music and sound could use a little work. Also, the pacing was off, which made it tough to follow at times. There were a few slow parts that seemed to drag on longer than they should have.
Phil Lyndon was fantastic in the lead role as the Fixer. He was distinguished and commanding and really carried the film. He was rugged and refined and believable. Patrick Oliver was also great as the overzealous, domineering boss. He appeared to channel his best inner Michael Cain.
Fixer is brilliantly written. It’s raw and ruthless with a killer ending that will blow you away. It’s vicious, gutsy, and unrelenting. If you’re looking for a politically charged old school crime drama, definitely give this one a watch.
