The Minions are back in yellow and purple and coming at you in 3D in Despicable Me 2
It’s been a while since Gru (Steve Carrell) has been on our screens with his wonderfully funny Minions, so bringing the cute little yellow creations back was always likely.
So now Gru has settled down and is now making Jam in his secret laboratory and looking after his “The Gurls”, but the peace isn’t going to last long when Gru is kidnapped by Agent Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig) and recruited by the AVL (Anti-Villain League) to track down a new super-villain
Despicable Me 2 – That’s right, baby! Gru’s back in the game with cool cars… gadgets… and weapons!
The first thing that grabbed me with the film is that it doesn’t feel like a sequel, but you do get this with a lot of the kids films, it does feel like a stand alone movie, and not a follow on from the first film.
All the characters that we have come to love are back in Despicable Me 2, such as Dr. Nefario (Russell Brand), Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and little Agnes (Elsie Fisher)and of course the Minions.
Although the film isn’t as sinister and as funny as the first one, it still has a barrel of laughs, the Minions always guarantee belly laughs when they are on-screen and up to their usual antics.
The film develops a love interest with Gru and Lucy and the kids egg the on to get together, but meanwhile as this relationship grows the pair are trying to discover the identity of the super villain, while they are undercover as cake shop owners in a mall.
There’s plenty of laughs in for the kids in this one and even the adults will find it funny with a lot of the childish humour, but it seems to be the Minions that have the adults laughing, there is just something about this little yellow creatures that brings out the big kid in all of us.
Overall Thoughts For Despicable Me 2
A great family film that kids of all ages will love, the 3D does have some nice depth to it (Stay for the credits with some nifty use of the 3D and the Minions). It’s funny and cute all rolled into one package.
