Non-Stop was one of those movies I missed on the big screen, but the other day I received a Blu-Ray screener in the post for the DVD/Blu-Ray and VOD release, so guess what? It’s time for a disc review.
So off it went in to the PS3 for a viewing and the DD5.1 surround was cranked up for a couple of hours with the rather lovely Liam Neeson.
Neeson seems to be moving through a lot of these genres of movies these days, with the likes of Taken and other movies in the genre, Non-Stop did have me glued to find out who was texting him and setting him up!
Global action star LIAM NEESON (Taken series, Unknown) is U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks in Non-Stop, a suspense thriller played out at 40,000 feet in the air. During a transatlantic flight from New York City to London, Marks receives a series of cryptic text messages demanding that he instruct the airline to transfer $150 million into a numbered account. Until he secures the money, a passenger on his flight will be killed every 20 minutes.
Struggling with personal demons, Marks is left drained of any passion for the heroic calling of his profession. He has come to view his important assignment as merely a desk job in the sky. However, another day at the office becomes a high-stakes crisis when shortly into a routine transatlantic flight, Marks’ world is upended. Non-Stop is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and stars Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery and Lupita Nyong’o.
Although Non-Stop is a little slow taking off, excuse the pun, at around 15 minutes in Marshall Bill Marks (played by Liam Neeson) starts to get his first of many cryptic text messages, which are nicely displayed as floating messages on the screen.
It’s at this point things get sinister and Marks has a rather tricky dilemma to short out!
OK, so I’m not just bringing you my thoughts of the movie, but also the Blu-Ray which is out for release next week, thee overall quality of the picture is good, with the Blu-Ray lifting out the colours and details really nicely shown on the release.
The DTS 5.1 also works nicely with the sound mix being used to good use with the likes of the raw of the engines and the him of the plane in the air. Let’s face it there really isn’t that much sound, that you can have on the plane, but what there is, is used very well.
When it comes to the features, it is a little sparse, with a few makings of and behind the scenes section as well as the films trailer, although I did like the use of the pop up menu that you can get access to during the film to move around, it’s designed to look like the phone that is used in the movie.

- Non-Stop Featurette
- Interviews with Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, Jaume Collet-Serra and Joel Silver
Overall it’s a gripping movie, at times it can be a little slow, but let’s face it, Non-Stop isn’t an all balls out action movie, it’s more of suspense thriller and in that genre it works nicely, with a few action set pieces thrown in to break the ice.
