We’ve been told today that the work on the ambitious plans to transform the Nova, Prestatyn, into a state of the art attraction for local residents and a brand new destination for the tourism industry is moving along.
When the new complex is finished, the £4.4 million re-development will replace the Nova that was ran by Clwyd Leisure Ltd. The contractors, ISG, are now on-site carrying out the refurbishment of the new venue and its facilities, which have been drawn up by the Council and its leisure partner, Alliance Leisure Services Ltd.
The scheme includes improvements to the look of the building as well as the creation of a new entrance and reception area, a 60 station fitness suite, new café and restaurant, two new retail units, a three story soft play structure with unique pieces of play equipment, multi-purpose studios that can host events and functions and refurbishment of toilets and changing areas throughout the complex. The scheme has also been extended to include the complete refurbishment of the public toilet block together with improvements to the promenade area. The 25 metre swimming pool and small splash pool have been retained.
The phase 1 structural steel work has been completed and phase 2 work is due to start yesterday (20 July), for which there will be a five-week road closure in place with diversions. All internal block work alterations, the main entrance superstructure, internal ramps and drainage runs in the new wet changing areas are all now complete. Roofing, internal stud walls and mechanical and electrical work is ongoing.
Councillor Huw Jones, Cabinet Lead Member for Community Development, said: “The re-development of the Nova is an important piece of the jig-saw in our vision to develop the leisure offer on the coast, as well as the creation of a brand new destination for visitors to the region.
“The Council has a strong track record of transforming failing facilities into modern, fit for purpose attractions the North Wales Bowling Centre in Prestatyn being a key example.
“This is a really important , high-profile project for the coast, which demonstrates our commitment to providing the best high-quality leisure offer to residents and visitors, making sure we bring the best facilities to the coast and we look forward to seeing another exciting project come to fruition.”
