It is a great honour to be part of an amazing team at the Prestatyn cinema and it’s fantastic that the cinema has reopened and is not only bringing the town some great movies, but also many of the residents are over the moon that the much-loved cinema is back on its feet.
Many of you may have seen some of the social media updates that I had posted up lately with regards to my new position at the Scala Cinema.

The original Scala Cinema, which opened during 1913, was sadly forced to close in December 2000, due to neglect and the high cost of much-needed repairs. The Friends of the Scala have continued to work tirelessly since 2001, and are committed to ensuring the town, its residents and the welcome visitors to Prestatyn receive a quality, manageable and sustainable modern replacement cinema and theatre facility.
Construction of the new Scala commenced in February 2007 and it was completed in late 2008. When the Scala re-opened on Friday February 13th in 2009, its state of the art facilities began to help regenerate our town of Prestatyn, whilst also helping to increase employment and boost tourism. The new Scala Cinema will also provide much-needed modern and comfortable facilities for a variety of community and volunteer groups. – Source Friends of the Scala
In January 2015 the Scala closed its doors and many of us were heartbroken that such a wonderful cinema may never open again, but they wasn’t to be closed for too long as the new leaseholder, Rob Arthur from Aurora Leisure Ltd took over the Scala.
The company’s takeover will mark a “new dawn” for the attraction, which suffered a tarnished past before closing down in January. – Rob Arthur
With the introduction of Sony’s latest Digital Cinema 4K projectors and a new satellite for streaming live events, the Scala Cinema was ready to re-open its doors to welcome in returning fans of the cinema, film and those that love nights out.
The cinema is opening up a stage at a time, as improvements are made to help bring something new to the Scala, so along with its state of the art 4K system, there are also meeting rooms that can be hired for businesses to have their board meetings, a multimedia room for budding film makers to use and then get their movies on to the big screens at the cinema.
There are also some amazing plans in the pipeline for the restaurant area upstairs and from what I’ve heard from the team at the Scala, the cinema looks like it is going to be a central hub for entertainment in Prestatyn. With the experience that Nicci and Emma have in running a cinema, the Scala is well and truly is safe, reliable, hands.
Scala Cinema Prestatyn and Blazing Minds Working Together
As many of you know Blazing Minds has been up such a following over the last seven years with all the work that is not only done on the website, but also behind the scenes with the likes of the promotion via social media for places we visit a lot , so when the call came in from the Scala to pop in for a chat I was excited.
What followed on was the amazing news that I was now the Official Movie Blogger/Reviewer for the Scala Cinema, all I can say is I’m honoured that the Scala managers have asked me to work alongside them, it’s also fantastic to be working with many of the staff that I already know and have worked with before.
Being given such an opportunity is an honour, so you can expect a lot more coming in from the cinema to Blazing Minds, not only films but also live shows, such as the upcoming Rocky Horror Live on the 17th September and much more. You may have already noticed the page we have for the listings for the Scala Cinema, this will be improved and expanded over the next few weeks to bring you more exclusive news and more.
So keep your eyes peeled to Blazing Minds via the RSS feed, Twitter @BlazingMinds and the Official Blazing Minds Facebook page for so much more that is going to be coming your way from my Award Winning blog.
