ILY FIlms have confirmed that their latest action thriller, Out of Death, is set to be released on Digital Download from August 2nd and on DVD from October 4th, we check out the new movie that features Bruce Willis and Jaime King.
Directed by Mike Burns, who makes his feature film debut, Out of Death stars the legendary action icon Bruce Willis (Die Hard), Jaime King (Sin City, My Bloody Valentine) and Lala Kent (Hard Kill, Vault).
Still grieving the untimely death of her father, photojournalist Shannon Mathers (Jamie King) spreads his ashes in the woods when she witnesses a cop (Lala Kent) shooting and killing an unarmed henchman during a drug deal. She captures the whole scene on her camera before being discovered. Shot at, scared, helpless and on the run, she races her way through the woods with no recognition of her location.
Distracted by the violent noise of the attack, Jack Harris (Bruce Willis) a newly retired police officer who is relaxing at his cabin, saves Shannon just in time and the two narrowly escape into the woods. Not sure of whom she can trust, as more dirty cops arrive to help hunt her down, including the brutal town sheriff Hank Rivers (Michael Sirow), she decides to rely on Jack, her only real chance to fight back the corrupt police and bring it to justice.
Out of Death is Less Action and more Thriller
I have to say that I was hoping that the new movie with Bruce Willis would take him out of that slump of films where he’s started getting a reputation for the low-budget releases and be one that would be action-packed, but sadly no.
Gone have those days of the action in the likes of Die Hard and the one-liners from the likes of The Fifth Element, now Bruce Willis seems content with just having his name on a movie, in Out of Death he seems lacklustre and there are several scenes where he just seems to be staring off in the distance to just get the scene over and done with.
In one scene where he is talking on the mobile phone, he seems to awkwardly stare in various directions and it just doesn’t look right, making the scene more of a distraction than one to be interested in.
But it’s not all bad for Out of Death it does have a great soundtrack and some of the rolling landscape shots are shot very well and do look good, it’s just a crying shame the rest of the film doesn’t hold up to the trailer and that the film is action-packed, it’s rather slow, to be honest.
The story has some potential to bring something good to the screen, but sadly something is missing from the film to give it what it needs.
