It was an amazing night this year with the 92nd Oscars and as with every year I stayed up watching the events unfold, the winners take their awards and get blown away by the four Oscars that Bong Joon ho walked away with for Parasite.
I’d been wanting to see the film for a while and sadly missed the Cineworld unlimited Screening that was shown a while back, so I patiently waited and waited for the release of Parasite to head to one of the two Cineworld Cinemas that I visit, Llandudno and Broughton.
On the night of the Oscars, I got even more excited to check out the Best Picture-winning film and when I saw on the Cineworld app that Parasite was showing at Broughton, I booked the showing for myself and my radio co-host to go and check it out, finally!
Subtitled movies can put some people from seeing a film on the big screen, but I still enjoy them as much as any good film and on the night we went to see the film, it was clear that this was a film that, shall we say, the older generations were interested in and at one point Will and I were the youngest in the cinema, but that soon changed just before the film started.
The age group of the cinema-goers certainly go to show that Parasite is a film that is one that true film fans want to see, thankfully no teenagers mucking about and not one mobile phone out or anyone speaking during the movie, a sheer joy during a film these days.
Parasite a Modern Day Masterpiece
OK enough of my time at the cinema, let’s get on to the film itself, all the praise you may have heard about Parasite is true! This is a film that right from the very start has you gripped to not only the twisting and turning story but also to the characters that are beautifully crafted to bring the mystery and sinister moments throughout the movie to life.
The Kims, a poor family with nothing more than a basement apartment and a few belongings, con their way into becoming the servants of a rich family, the Parks. But their easy life gets very complicated as they slowly but surely move in on the Parks, but their deception is threatened with exposure and something more surprising that you really don’t see coming!
All the cast in Parasite are superb, Bong Joon-ho has crafted a beautifully produced and show film that is not only a delight to watch, but it also pulls you in the further and further as the Kims slowly move into the life of the Parks, with its twists and turns you find your concentration building up and wanting to know more about how they will get what they want without making any mistakes.
Parasite is a stunning movie and if you can sit through it reading the subtitles then don’t miss the chance to see the film, this film has everything you could possibly want from a movie of this calibre, the music by Jaeil Jung even brings in an overwhelming feeling of emotions throughout the film.
When Parasite won the four Oscars recently I was hoping that this wasn’t all hype for the film and after seeing it I’ve found it hard to find any fault in the film, I can’t find any. This is a film that is certainly going to be on the top on many of my “Top Film” lists for a while, with amazing production, direction, acting and script I can’t give Parasite anything less than top marks.
My recommendation is to grab the chance to see the film at a cinema near you, it’s brilliant.
