I remember back in 1982, or just after, seeing Rambo: First Blood on VHS, it’s so hard to believe that it’s been almost four decades after he drew first blood, Sylvester Stallone is now back as one of, possibly, the greatest action heroes of all time, John Rambo (Stallone). Now in his 70s (and damn he can still kick ass), Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission. A deadly journey of vengeance, RAMBO: LAST BLOOD marks the last chapter of the legendary series and it’s a movie that fits well into the franchise
The New movie which stars Sylvester Stallone, Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Adrianna Barraza, Yvette Monreal, Genie Kim aka Yenah Han, Joaquin Cosio, and Oscar Jaenada, is directed by Adrian Grunberg (Man on Fire), the movie follows on from the previous movie, in as much that we are in Rambo home that we see him walking down to at the end of the 2008 movie, yes it’s been that long.
John Rambo is now settled and almost at ease until Gabrielle (Yvette Monreal), the young girl he has taken under his wing and calls him uncle John, discovers where her dead beat father is and goes to find him, all goes to hell when she is kidnapped and taken into the world of drugs and sex slavery.
There’s only one thing that John Rambo can do, head over to Mexico and save her, but things go a little different that he expects!
Before long, the bad guys come into Rambo’s world and his home, that’s the time that Rambo defends his home and to get revenge!
I have to say that I’ve been a fan of Rambo since that first film in 1982, this last outing for the character starts off rather slow, although it is nice to see how the ageing Vietnam veteran is coping with the world and life since his return home after the last movie and to see how much is life has slowed down, even though he still seems to need a tunnel complex to hide away from the world.
If you are expecting an all-out action movie from the start, as you would believe from the trailer, then you will be a little surprised that the action and extreme bloodshed and carnage doesn’t really take place until the last half hour or so of the movie, but that’s not to say that the action isn’t worth the wait!
You can easily see why the movie gets its 18 certificates as the blood flies everywhere and limbs and heads are detached with such ferocious ways, all well done on the big screen and in many ways much like moments from the previous Rambo movies over the last 37 years.
For me, I enjoyed Rambo Last Blood, it’s a fitting end to the franchise and it’s nice to see Stallone bringing the character back one last time.
