Those of you that read the articles here on Blazing Minds will have seen us post about the new trailer and artwork for Ravage courtesy of Signature Entertainment, today we bring you our review of the film.

Right from the start of Ravage, we are thrown in with a quick but brutal scene that sets the tone of the film, followed by an awesome sunset shot of a character beautifully walking in slow motion towards the camera, accompanied by a superb soundtrack from Jacques Brautbar, we then head to a hospital scene as Harper Sykes (Annabelle Dexter-Jones) is being questioned about what happened to her as they have doubt of her report.

As she gives her report to the officer we have a few flashbacks (which we seem to get in a lot of movies these days), these then take us back to the start of what happened to Harper and while she was on a photography assignment in the woods of the Watchatoomy valley, while there she captures a disturbing event of a man being brutally whipped and beaten in the woods.

After reporting the incident to the local sheriff, Harper is quickly captured by the culprits and taken to an abandoned farm in the woods to be brutally tortured by them.

Thankfully due to Harper’s experience as a survivalist, she is able to escape but is on the run and has to quickly outsmart her captors and in tun the tables on them.

The film is certainly not for the faint of heart, even though the brutal attack on the man isn’t seen by the viewer, the sounds of the whip strikes and screams are blood-curdling and the brief glimpses of photos that Harper takes that quickly shown on the screen give you the idea of the horror that these men can inflict!

There are some great looking shots in this film and I don’t mean of the gory bits, I’m talking about the scenery shots, they leave you with a sense of the great outdoors and calming feel before the brutality starts up again, but that gives the film its rollercoaster effect that works very well for the subject matter.

Like some of the other indie films I’ve seen over the years the bigger name in the cast does take a while to come into the film and it’s worth the wait to see the performance from Bruce Dern as the story gives you the WTF moment.

I found the film both interesting to watch and disturbing, the ending certainly had me cringing somewhat, although we do have some idea where the film was going to end up, it still has a stomach-churning moment when the reality of what has happened to Harper and why she is in the hospital bed hits home!

Ravage stars Annabelle Dexter-Jones (Cecile on the Phone), Bruce Dern (The Hateful Eight) and is written and directed by Teddy Grennan.
