Red Dawn, the remake of the 1984 film starring Patrick Swayze, finally got a UK release in to the cinemas, a week after the film is released on DVD in the US, but the big question is, was it worth waiting for!

In Red Dawn, a city in Washington State awakens to the sight of North Korean troopers dropping from the sky. The US is being invaded and it’s this small town that is the target for the invasion, without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation.

Determined to take their town back, a group of young college kids seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganising themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. They call themselves the “Wolverines”, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.

Red Dawn (2012) Review

As with a lot of films these days, Hollywood has really got in to the habit of making remakes and Red Dawn is no exception, based on the 1984 which starred Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Charlie Sheen, and Jennifer Grey, the lovelies of the 80s.

Instead of the film being based on the Soviets invading America, now Red Dawn has been updated to Korea invading them instead.

I can’t really say much about this remake of Red Dawn except that it is a pointless remake, let’s face it the original film was overrated  in my humble point of view, why Chris Hemsworth even contemplated taking the role is a mystery.

Red Dawn is an action movie of sorts, but maybe in this day and age remaking a film that really showed the gung-ho fears of the Soviet Union invading America is  a little weak, even if they have changed the invading country to Korea.

There are better films out in the cinemas at the moment and with the films delay hitting the UK cinemas, it’s any wonder why it was not just a straight to DVD release.

Overall Thoughts For Red Dawn

A bit of a limp remake and not exactly a film that warranted a remake in the first place, you may enjoy this if you are a fan of Chris Hemsworth or you just want to see how Connor Cruise’s (Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s adopted son) acting career is doing.
