A dysfunctional team of young assassins set out to make a name for themselves by killing the most notorious hitman of all time, Gunther (Arnold Schwarzenegger) in Killing Gunther. Hiring a documentary crew at gunpoint to record their every step, including the undeniable proof of the execution itself, they attempt to discover Gunther’s true identity and whereabouts. But before the team can even cock their guns, things go from bad to the most horrible ever; Gunther is onto them and gleefully plots some deadly punishment of his own. The infamous killer torments the team, turning them against each other, as he remains seven moves ahead. It doesn’t take long for the hunters to become the hunted in this non-stop, cat-and-mouse dark comedy.

Where do you start with Killing Gunther well for starters it’s rather bonkers, but not in a bad way, I’m not one for these fakeumentary type movies or handheld camera movies, but this one I found funny, it reminded me a bit of Best in Show, bit with hitmen instead of dog shows!

Killing Gunther is a movie that is a refreshing change from the special effects-laden movies and ones that look so very polished, it’s edited well and the cast certainly come across well with their comedic moments throughout the film, the moment when the hitmen arrive in Miami incognito is funny, with them arriving it outfits that are very much not incognito!
So the characters are stereotypical, but they all work well together in their craziness as we join them as they wait for and hunt down Gunther (Arnold Schwarzenegger), amidst their cockups trying to get the job done. When Arnie does come on the scene, we get an Arnie that we remember from those 80s action movies and he certainly packs in some of those lines from previous roles that we have all come to know over the years.
When Arnie does finally make it to the screen it’s great to see him almost sending himself up in the movie with some lines that are just pure Arnie!!
