When I was asked to review this album, I was like “ok, cool name, but can they live up to that crazy name.” I have to say I was not disappointed at all.
Batshit Crazy! Are a group that descend from California, and they came together early 2017.
Batshit Crazy are Ricky V – Vocals, Chuck D – Guitar, Jason V – Bass and Mike M – Drums.
Batshit Crazy wanted to start something that would be all their guilty pleasures rolled into on. A Pop Punk Hardcore Horror Rock N’ Roll band, hence the name Batshit Crazy. From the get-go they knew where they wanted to take the direction of the band, they wanted music that would fit on a record like different scenes from a movie, some intense others gleeful and so on.
Chuck wanted to write about his favourite movies like “PHANTASM”, “THEY LIVE”, “ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK”, “HEREDITARY”, “HELLRAISER”, “HALLOWEEN”, etc. dark themes with exciting colour schemes, i.e. everything that made sense in their heads but doesn’t make sense on paper. After finding the perfect pieces for the band, including a singer who can both sing & scream Batshit Crazy started recording.
Batshit Crazy state that their music sound is a mixture of Pop, Punk, Hardcore, Horror and Rock ‘n’ Roll. Their music has featured on MTV’s Ridiculousness and a VANS Skate video. They have also featured on a number of horror-related podcasts such as, “Don’t go down that Road”, “Horror Haven” and “Slashers”. These guys wholesomely relate their music to such horror films like A Nightmare On Elm Street, and you can hear that in the music.
Listening to their album, I would have to say they are completely unique, and to be honest, I would not be able to put them into a single category. This is great as the group bring variety to the table.
I love the variation of each track, and you can see where the “horror” element comes in with each track title, such as “Bats in the Belfry”, and “They live, we sleep”, this is also in the lyrics and composing of the track.
The album does go from Pop to Punk right through to Hardcore, every element you can think of.
There is one particular track called “Bats in the Belfry”, which starts with a chiming of a church bell, already you start to picture a horror film, then it starts to sound like the band The Ramones, like a little bit of pop.
If I was to compare this group, there is really no one like them, to be honest, but they do have a mixture of various other groups.
I have already said The Ramones. They also remind me of My Chemical Romance, with elements of Linkin Park, maybe a bit of Busted, with a splash of Helloween.
This album is absolute craziness at its best, I would even say that they got their name bang on, Batshit! Crazy is everything it stands for with their music.
I would recommend to follow Batshit! Crazy, and download/buy their music for something completely different.
I have rated this album a 4 out of 5, as although it’s absolutely crazy, I feel they could give other genres of music a blooming good go of. Plus there was a couple of tracks that did sound slightly similar, but still a brilliant album.
