Yesterday was a busy day for me as I did a trilogy of movies at Cineworld in Broughton, the first film I started with was Marvel’s new movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and I watched the film in RealD 3D 4DX and wow what a ride it was!
Now I have to say that I didn’t know much about the character of Shang-Chi before I went in to see the movie. All I’d seen were the trailers for the release, but as soon as I found out it was heading to the big screens in 3D 4DX I just had to see it in that format and I am so glad I did.
Shang-Chi, the master of unarmed weaponry-based Kung Fu, is forced to confront his past after being drawn into the Ten Rings organisation.
Now if the Ten Rings organisation sounds familiar, then you will know it from Iron Man 3 in which we heard about it from the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), now in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings we are brought up to date after the “blip” that brought everyone back after Thanos clicked his fingers to remove half the world’s population, we are also taken on a journey to the backstory of Shang-Chi, his family and the magical ten rings that his father possesses.
Right from the very start of this film I had the feeling that I was going to enjoy it, but I didn’t realise how much I would, it took me back to that day in 2008 when I first saw Marvel Studios’ Iron Man, the sheer excitement that I had back then was now something I was getting with Shang-Chi.
The Extra Dimensions of RealD 3D & 4DX
Marvel has pulled off yet another film in their arsenal that is packed with amazing effects, a wicked soundtrack, a great story and some series ass-kicking martial arts choreography that looks fantastic, add to this the RealD 3D to pull you into the movie and have things coming out of the screen at you and you have a thrill ride of a film.
But it doesn’t stop there, the screening I went to also had the added bonus of 4DX, something I have loved since first experiencing it a couple of years ago at Broughton Cineworld. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is one of the most active 4DX that I have seen, I thought Free Guy was great but Shang-Chi really turns the dial up to eleven to take you on a rollercoaster ride.
I don’t think that I’ve been to a 4DX screening that has used so much wind and water effects as this one did and, damn, did it work brilliantly, you really feel you are part of the action throughout the film, from the subtle sprays of water to wind blowing around you to make you feel you are outside of a skyscraper.
The film itself is so much fun to watch and also includes some well-known characters from the MCU that ties in so nicely to the film and certainly open up Shang-Chi for more Marvel Movies and Phase 4.
Shang-Chi has a Superb Cast
The cast of the film is superb, I loved Simu Liu as the lead character and he really brings the character to life on the big screen with his charisma and stunning martial arts performance, Awkwafina who plays Katy is fantastic with her humour to lighten the darker moments of the film and as per usual she had me laughing out loud many times.
Tony Chiu-Wai Leung as Xu Wenwu, Shang-Chi’s father, is certainly an actor that has brought us a character that you will love to hate or feel sorry for depending on which way you look at the storyline, then there is one of my all-time favourites, the amazing Michelle Yeoh as Ying Nan who always brings her amazing talents to screens and is a pure joy to watch perform.
I have to say that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is certainly one of my favourites films this year, it’s packed with everything that a summer blockbuster should have and it’s no wonder that the film made $71.4 Million on its opening weekend, it’s a great movie to continue Phase 4 of Marvel’s releases after Black Widow, now I just can’t wait to see where the character goes and how Shang-Chi will fit in with the movies that are heading our way and will go down the route of the previous Phases and find that the upcoming movies will head towards another Avengers: Endgame type release, only time will tell, I for one am very excited.
Are there any post-credits scenes on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings?
Putting it simply, YES. There are two for you to look out for, one is just after the credits start and the second is right at the end, let’s just say that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is looking pretty interesting right now.
