It’s not only been a great day for the latest film charts, but also we have some amazing news that Spider-Man: Now Way Home is rocking your home viewing!
According to new data from the Official Charts Company and British Association for Screen Entertainment (BASE) the latest edition of the Tom Holland-starring Marvel franchise has sold over 780,000 copies since it was released in March this year; more than doubling the sales of the film in second place with audience’s keen to witness the multiverse epic with characters from past and present from all across the “Spider-Verse” returning.
At Number two in the year-to-date chart is the 2021 version of Dune which was released for home entertainment in January, while Ghostbusters sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes in at Number 3, and is the second-biggest release on digital downloads of the year so far.

Daniel Craig’s final performance as James Bond in No Time To Die lands at Number 4 – the second-biggest physical release of the year – while animated musical favourite Sing 2 rounds off the Top 5 at Number 5.
Recent releases include The Batman, which makes an impressive appearance at Number 6 despite only being released in May. Disney’s Encanto – which took over the Official Singles Chart at the start of the year when We Don’t Talk About Bruno spent seven weeks at Number 1 – earns a well-deserved place at Number 8, just ahead of action/adventure Uncharted (9) and The Matrix’s fourth instalment, The Matrix Resurrections (10).
Outside the Top 10, the original Top Gun from 1986 starts at Number 11 following the release of its sequel, Top Gun: Maverick in cinemas earlier in the year; the film broke records in May when it became the oldest film to ever top the Official Film Chart.
Another recent release, video game sequel Sonic The Hedgehog 2, scores a Number 14 placing despite having not yet been released on physical formats at the end of the 6-month data period, with it proving very popular in the UK on digital downloads only. Additionally, Morbius lands at Number 32 in the list, only having been released for home viewing in mid-June.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive, Official Charts Company said: “Congratulations to Spider-Man and the team behind the latest movie on their fantastic achievement in the first half of the year. The success of the title (along with the Dune, Ghostbusters, James Bond and Sing releases) emphasises just how popular buying and owning movies remains in 2022, when there is so much competition for the attention of consumers.”
