The Life of Chuck Review – Cineworld Unlimited Screening

I wasn’t sure what to expect from tonight’s Cineworld Unlimited Screening of The Life of Chuck. From the trailer that had been shown over the past few weeks, I knew the film would be a bit different, but I never anticipated how it would evoke such a wide range of emotions in me.

From the hearts and minds of Stephen King and Mike Flanagan comes The Life of Chuck, an extraordinary story about an ordinary man. This unforgettable, genre-bending tale celebrates the life of Charles “Chuck” Krantz as he experiences the wonder of love, the heartbreak of loss, and the complexities that reside within us all.

The Life of Chuck” embarks on a strange yet delightful journey. I must say, the trailer does not do justice to the film’s unique charm and intriguing strangeness. With an amazing cast, it narrates the story of a man’s life filled with unexpected moments.

The film opens with an introduction to characters who seem to be getting on with their lives when things start to happen, the internet goes down, the world starts slipping into chaos, and life is about to change for everyone. This opening act is beautifully shot in a widescreen format that gives us the expanse of what is happening.

The wonderful part about this first section of the film is that you aren’t sure what is going on, and you do ask, “Where is Chuck?” At this point, we only see him on billboards across the town. All this may add to some confusion, but as the film progresses, all is made clear. I’ll try now to go deeper into what is going on, as it spoils it.

As “The Life of Chuck” progresses through its various acts, you’ll notice that each act features a different screen ratio. I found this to be a beautiful touch, as it conveys a sense of the passage of time. Everything gradually comes together, so it’s essential to pay attention to the details, as they fit together like a well-crafted jigsaw puzzle.

The cast in The Life of Chuck is an outstanding ensemble of amazing actors, including Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mia Sara, Carl Lumbly, Benjamin Pajak, Jacob Tremblay, and Mark Hamill. They all bring their skills to the production and are a joy to watch. Mark Hamill’s character was one that I loved watching, and I found myself wanting to have a grandad like him.

Tom Hiddleston dances in The Life of Chuck

I found myself being pulled in by every moment of the film. There is a great section with Tom Hiddleston dancing along as a busker plays the drums, and I felt a huge smile on my face as he danced along. The style of music changed throughout; it was wonderful to watch him dance.

One thing that I wasn’t expecting from the film was for me to be grabbing the tissues as I could feel my eyes welling up and tears trying to burst out to escape down my cheeks, there aren’t many films that do this to me, but damn The Life of Chuck seemed to find that heartstring that it wanted to pluck the hell out of!

The Life of Chuck isn’t going to be for everyone, and some people may get a little confused about what is going on, but if you look deep into the film and take it all in, then it is worth the time and you will spot some wonderful Stephen King Easter Eggs such as a very noticable one of Christine early on in the film. I’ll let you find the rest.
