We were treated to an early screening of the new comedy adventure The Lost City starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt thanks to Cineworld and their Unlimited Screening for Unlimited Card members.
Loretta (Bullock) is a reclusive romance novelist that is struggling with the last chapter of her latest book before she has to go on a book tour to promote her latest book with her book cover model Alan (Tatum) before the book tour can get into full flow she is kidnapped by treasure hunter Abigail Fairfax (Radcliffe) so that she can help him find the treasure that she has based her latest book on, as there some truth in the story she has written.
But after being kidnapped it is up to Alan and former Navy Seal and meditation partner Jack Trainer (Pitt) to track her down on an island that has an active volcano that is about to blow to rescue her from the clutches of Fairfax, suffice to say things really don’t go to plan.
The Lost City is packed with some great comedy moments that really brings to mind the fantastic Romancing The Stone as Loretta and Alan try to not only travel through the jungle to find the treasure but also escape from the henchmen that Fairfax has sent out to get her to help him find the priceless treasure.
Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum are a perfect coupling for this laugh out loud comedy with Tatum bringing us some great lines as the model that may be all brawn and not much else, Bullock’s character reminded me a little of her undercover alter ego in Miss Congeniality especially when she arrives in the jungle in her heels and sequined jumpsuit.
I still find it a little hard to watch Daniel Radcliffe without thinking of Harry Potter, but I did enjoy his portrayal of Fairfax, not exactly a villain but a character that has greed in his eyes for the riches that are possibly waiting for him on the Island.
Brad Pitt‘s “cameo” is brilliant and I really do wish that we hadn’t seen his character in the trailer and that it was left as a surprise, I would have loved to have seen so much more of his character in The Lost City, but being a cameo the character works great for the branch between Loretta getting kidnapped and Alan arriving to try and save her.
It’s great to escape to far off lands with a comedy movie that just makes you laugh out loud so many times, The Lost City certainly ticks the boxes when it comes to the comedy, action and adventure that is so much fun to watch.
If you are looking to escape for just under 2 hours then The Lost City is the film to check out and believe me it really doesn’t feel like it has a run time of 1h 52m, I honestly thought it was only on for around an hour an half!
The Lost City is in UK Cinemas on the 13th of April.
