Multi-talented, UK-based, Country/Americana singer, guitarist and songwriter. TJ Walker is giving away copies of the brand-new song that he’s releasing for Father’s Day: ‘Daddy’s Girl’. After the hiatus of lockdown, this track is his latest release, following up from his impressive debut album ‘The Long Game’, released in 2019, which has now reached 150k on Spotify.
TJ Walker’s 10-track debut album ‘The Long Game’ took the term ‘solo album’ quite literally: Not only did Tom write, sing, and play all the instruments throughout the album, he also recorded and produced it in his well-equipped studio at home!
Over the last 18 months, between home-schooling his 3 children, live-streaming and tutoring guitar, Tom has written and recorded an album’s worth of material, including ‘Daddy’s Girl’: an unashamedly sentimental, but sincere, song, which touches on angles of parenting not often heard in song: having more than one child and the competition for attention and affection between those siblings; also, how an older child sees a younger, and vice versa,
As TJ says himself, “The song is a bit of a tearjerker: it’s about being a parent and watching your children grow up; their sibling jealousy; and about hoping they’ll look after each other when you’re not there.
“The inspiration for the song came from an incident during a meal, just after my second daughter was born. The waitress was cooing over her. But my eldest daughter — who wasn’t really paying attention —assumed that, as usual, she was the subject of the attention, only to discover she wasn’t! I think this is something a lot of parents have experienced!”
As it’s a TJ Walker song, you’ll find honest, eloquent lyrics, free from cliché, skilful guitar playing, and feeling-filled vocals. The video adds stills and clips of his young daughters, illustrating and personalising the song.
