Video Shop Tales of Terror is a new horror anthology that brings together some of the UK’s best indie horror filmmakers. An idea that was originally conceived by Singh Lall, the Curator of the Horror on Sea Video Club.
With the Kickstarter now coming to an end on 1st December, Blazing Minds have been talking with the directors of each segment and are giving you a sneak peek as to what you can expect.
In our fifth breakdown of the series director, Sam Mason-Bell talks about his segment horror segment The Red Lipped Moon
About the director Sam Mason-Bell
I’m Sam Mason-Bell the co-runner of TrashArts, over the last 14 years we have produced numerous
films including the horror films Lonely Hearts (2019), The Millennial Killer (2020), The Truth Will Out (2020), Industrial Animals (2016) and most recently Terror at Black Tree Forest (2021) and Acting (2021).
Horror Segment: The Red Lipped Moon
During the pandemic I started chatting with Ciao Handy (Andrew Elias) about producing a horror anthology with various Horror-on-Sea Alumni, Singh had some fantastic ideas of how that could be crafted, and I was honoured to be involved. A VHS store has many films beyond its golden era, so I thought a noir horror would fit in!
The Cast
The film takes from the classic archetypes of noir, I wanted Chris Mills to be the lead as he has a very charismatic presence and knows he can lead any story.
With Annabella Rich’s vampire character Ivy, we were developing it into a feature film, so I thought it would be fun to explore the character is a noir beforehand.
Ryan Carter, Simon Berry are trusted actor friends of mine and were the first faces
I saw when thinking of the underbelly crime characters in this film. James E Taylor, I’ve been dying to work with since seeing him in Day of The Stranger (2019) and I’m looking forward to him putting some deranged sleaze to a sort of drug dealer.
