Within 5 seconds of this film starting I knew exactly what I was in for, and I carried on with expectations set, and an eagerness to see just how accurate my expectations were.

I love a good werewolf movie, Dog Soldiers, Howl, American Werewolf In London etc. I also love a really bad werewolf movie, along the lines of Strippers V Werewolves. Werewolf Serenade is very much in the 2^nd camp, except with a much lower budget.

The basic idea behind this film is intriguing. Research is being done at a paranormal research centre, the best and only one in the country, into schemes during WW2 about creating werewolves. The initial researcher tells his friend to destroy his research if he should die, which he then of course does. The friend is then given the task of completing the research while meeting the benefactor who is funding the work. The possibilities for this are interesting and could warrant a remake in a couple of years.

Looking at this film dispassionately, from a technical point of view, it’s really not good. The low/lack of budget is brutally obvious from the beginning. The effects, such as they are, are used sparingly and are simply not done well. The acting is student film levels, and so stilted and wooden at times that it wouldn’t be hard to believe this is the first film for many of the actors.

All that being said…I love this film. It’s so bad it’s verging on brilliant. I have watched some truly awful low-budget films, and I’ve seen some utter trash from big Hollywood studios, but films like this are rare gems. I’m not going to tell you this is a good film, because it’s not. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. That being said, if you have a history of being fascinated by really bad-good films this will 100 percent tickle your fancy. It gets a 2.5/5, and a big smile on my face.
