We’ve had some news of a new release from Dogwoof today with the announcement that WESTWOOD: PUNK, ICON, ACTIVIST across the UK and Ireland in 2018.
The documentary is directed by acclaimed visual artist Lorna Tucker who makes her feature film debut, WESTWOOD: PUNK, ICON, ACTIVIST is the first feature-length documentary to encompass the remarkable story of one of the true icons of our time, Dame Vivienne Westwood: punk, icon, provocateur, and one of the most influential originators in recent history.
Lorna Tucker cut her teeth creating promos for bands such as Unkle, The Cult, and Queens of The Stone Age, and short films for McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, and Nike. Her work has shown at international festivals and museums including MAM Sao Paulo and Guggenheim Bilbao. 2018 sees the release of her first feature documentaries: Westwood and Amá—a delicate exposé of the forcible sterilization of Native American women in the latter half of the twentieth century.
Before WESTWOOD: PUNK, ICON, ACTIVIST hits the UK cinemas next year, it will receive its world premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival on Saturday 20th January as part of the World Cinema Documentary Competition.
Dame Vivienne Westwood is Punk Rock’s Grande Dame. One time agent provocateur, the doyenne of British fashion, an eco-conscious Boudicca and one of the most influential originators in recent history. The film explores her uphill struggle to success, looking closely at her artistry, her activism and her cultural significance. Blending iconic archive and newly shot observational footage, this era-defining, intimate origins story will be told in Vivienne’s own words, and through touching interviews with her inner circle of family, friends and collaborators.

Dogwoof is handling international sales as well as UK distribution of the film which will be in UK cinemas from the 23rd March 2018.
