It was preview night thanks to Sky ViP last night as I got the chance to see Wild Rose starring Julie Walters and Jessie Buckley.
Wild Rose is the story of a Glaswegian Rose-Lynn Harlan (Jessie Buckley) who has a love for Country music and wants to make her dreams come true by going to Nashville to be a County music star, but nothing has gone to plan for her so far.
After spending 12 months in prison, Rose-Lynn is released and reunited with her son and daughter who have been looked after by her mother Marion (Julie Walters).
Marion has had enough of Rose-Lynn’s dreams though and believes that she should face reality and find a job, show some responsibility and bring up her kids.
Rose-Lynn finally gives in and get a job as a cleaner, only to find that she has unwittingly find that the lady of the house wants to help Rose-Lynn reach her potential and make her dreams come true.
Right from the very start of Wild Rose I had the same feeling that I had for the brilliant A Star is Born with Lady GaGa and Bradley Cooper, the opening music for Wild Rose just has you ready for a film that you know is going to be a well made and produced British made movie and it is.
Julie Walters is brilliant as Rose’s mother her Scottish accent is nicely done and you can see from her performance why she is one the best British actresses that we have around at the moment, her on-screen presence with Jessie Buckley certainly brings across the rocky mother and daughter relationship.
Jessie Buckley comes across very well as the down-trodden mother that only wants her dream to come true and head over to Nashville to sing Country, she puts on a great performance as Rose-Lynn, at first you get the feeling that you aren’t going to like the foul-mouthed “Wild Rose“, but as the mother progresses and you see that there is so much more to just wanting to sing.
Director Tom Harper (The Woman in Black 2, Peaky Blinders) has certainly brought us a movie that is fun to watch and keeps you interested in writer Nicola Taylor‘s characters on the screen, the production of Wild Rose looks great and certainly has that British movie
Wild Rose opened in UK Cinemas April 12, my recommendation is to check out the movie, it looks and sounds great on the big screen, well worth seeing.
Wild Rose Heads to DVD and Digital Download
After delighting audiences in cinemas, Entertainment One and Universal Pictures (UK) are thrilled to announce the release of WILD ROSE on DVD August 19th, featuring a breakout performance from 2019 BAFTA Rising Star nominee Jessie Buckley. The film will be available on Digital Download on August 5th.

Summary
The movie reminded me a little like a UK version of A Star is Born, the cast portrayed the characters very well on the screen, Julie Walters and Jessie Buckley had a great presence on the screen as a mother and daughter with a rocky relationship, there are plenty of laughs and some fantastic music to keep your toes tapping throughout the movie.
