We’ve got a new movie review for you today with the British horror and werewolf movie courtesy of Lightbulb Film Distribution, Wolf Manor.
The film had its world premiere at FrightFest earlier in 2022, prior to recent screenings at Mayhem Film Festival and Abertoir Horror Festival. The film also recently played as part of the BFI’s Monsters and Movies programme.
Wolf Manor is directed by Dominic Brunt and produced by Joanne Mitchell, the film was co-written by Joel Ferrari and Pete Wild. It stars James Fleet, John Henshaw, Jay Taylor and Thaila Zucchi. The film starts with a production company filming a horror before we are taken to “the Blue Moon” in what can be described as a homage to the fantastic An American Werewolf in London.
During the filming of the British, low-budget horror movie, the cast and crew begin disappearing. As the full moon rises, the nightmare begins, and the werewolf strikes. This is a movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is a comic look at behind the scenes of an indie horror movie being made when things go horribly wrong.
Wolf Manor has that brilliant Indie feel to it and the dark comedy certainly works throughout the production, James Fleet plays a great character as the actor that is the star of the film that is being made by the crew before the attacks start increasing, look at for a moment with him and crew member finding a “prop” hand in the darkness, it’s a scene with some dry whit that really works.
Director Dominic Brunt, who many will recognise as Paddy Kirk in Emmerdale, has brought us a film that not only has a good feel to the horror genre but also has plenty of moments to laugh out loud to, thanks to the writers Joel Ferrari and Pete Wild, the cinematography from Vince Knight is nicely done as most of the film is at night.

If you are wanting some gore from your horror movies, and who doesn’t, then you’ll certainly get it in this film, the gore effects look brilliant and very realistic from severed limbs to decapitated heads, which adds to the sheer horror when watching a werewolf film. It does take a while before we are brought the first look at the werewolf, but it is certainly worth the anticipation that the Wolf Manor builds to the first glimpses of the creature.
Look out for a rather strange and macabre post-credits scene.
If you are a supporter of the indie film scene then this is a film that you will want to check out, fn for horror fans alike as well.
