Ladies and Gentleman, Daniel Radcliffe has grown up, gone have the wizards, magic wands and all that silliness of the Harry Potter days, Daniel Radcliffe is now on his way of putting Potter behind him!
Bold words to start a blog post with I know, but after seeing The Woman In Black at @ApolloCinemas Rhyl last night my faith in the, now grown up, child star is on its way to showing that he’s not just Harry Potter he has more to show us in his career.
The Woman In Black – Blazing Minds Film Review
So here we find Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) as a young widowed lawyer, who takes on the job of trying to sell what seems to be a unsellable house, smack bang on an island that seems to have a rather horrific history and so the journey of shocks and more shocks start.
I do have to say that as soon as I saw Daniel Radcliffe on the screen the first thing I did think was Harry Potter and this is probably what a lot of people seeing him in a film will think, but put the Potter films behind you, this is nothing like them, the film is full of moments that will make you jump out of your skin, but all nicely done to keep in the boundaries of a 12A certificate, mainly for the younger Potter fans to see the film 😉
Ok there is nothing really horrible in the film, but the use of lulling the watcher in a moment of false security is nicely done and for me the film did seem to hark back to those classic days of the Hammer films of my childhood, you know the ones, watching them from behind the sofa when your parents have told you to go to bed 😆
The Woman in Black is a very atmospheric film and even though it’s just a 12A it does what it’s expected to do, make you jump, with the dark scenes and things in the background and the use of the surround sound, it all plays on your senses, it is nice to go and see a film these days where the audience reacts to something that they were expecting but still makes them jump.
It’s also nice to have a movie that is a period horror, I say horror loosely, Â it’s a ghost story with a touch of evil vengeance, there were times when I was expecting a bit of “Expecto Patronum” from Daniel, but that’s would just be silly.
Overall Thoughts Of The Woman In Black
If you want to see a good “Ghost Story” and have a few jump out of your seat moments, then this is certainly for you, take a loved one, it’s an excuse to hold on tight to each other, forgive it for being a 12A, you can blame the Potter fans for that one 😉 😉
