It’s been a while since the previous G.I. Joe movie and let’s face it, the other one really didn’t go down all that well, so this time it seems that the way to get people into the cinemas is the age-old excuse to use 3D.
So G.I. Joe: Retaliation is one of those no-brainer action movies that is mainly using a gimmick to entice people into seeing a film is based on some toy soldiers that are mainly more known in the US than here in the UK.
In this second movie, the G.I. Joes are not going up against their mortal enemy Cobra, they are forced to contend with a bigger threat from within the government that jeopardise their very existence as the greatest fighting force.
What is probably going to bring some crowds in for the movie is the face that WWE wrestler The Rock is in the movie as Roadblock, it’s going to be a good one for his fans as they do have a tendency to swarm to his movies to catch his biceps on the big screen.
Adding a rather large cameo from Bruce Willis didn’t really bring the film to any high expectations, especially after his last outing in A Good Day To Die Hard, but I suppose having a big name like his is the casting may help a film, sometimes.
There are several plot holes in G.I. Joe Retaliation and it does seem to be quite relentless the action sequences which are over the top and very explosive. As always The Rock is fairly wooden as are women of the other characters in the movie.
The 3D was also a bit of a let down, after seeing the trailer in 3D sometime back, it’s obvious now that all the good 3D shots are used in the trailer and the majority of the film did seem quite flat, potential scenes that could have been used to a full 3D advantage were sadly miss judged.
Overall Thoughts For G.I.Joe Retaliation
If you are just looking for a movie that is lots of explosions, firearms and very little storyline then G.I. Joe Retaliation is certainly going to be the movie for you to see. But with the source material what else could you do with it.
Anything more complicated would have the action fanatics up in arms, but for an action movie, which it is, it’s not all bad.
