As some of you may have seen, in a recently posted up an article about the Honey Club in Rhyl and some of the responses that it received about a new 60 Room hotel going up in its place.
The general consensus from people is that they didn’t think that it was the right decision for a hotel to be built in the town, but I may have a little something that may change people’s minds.
Let’s take in to consideration that Rhyl may not be as great as it once was and with stores such as M&S and Next leaving for Prestatyn, things did start to look a little grim.
Also with the high cosy of business rents for some properties, smaller businesses have had no choice but to close their doors for the last time.
But some businesses have come to Dominoes has come to the seaside town and news that Poundland will be moving into the previous M&S location is good news for the town economy.
Now yesterday, I was kindly given a flash drive containing a fly through of Rhyl with the layouts for new buildings and updates to already established building on the sea front that with revitalise Rhyl and bring it forward in to a new era of family fun.
You may have heard that the Sun Centre will be moving, yes this is true, the new “aquatic centre” will be constructed close to the Vue Cinema, where the skate park now is.
The Rhyl Pavilion will be refitted and modernised making it even better than it already is, and with the current run of bigger shows that are coming to the theatre, it looks like that even bigger names will be enticed to out seaside town.
Other improvements include a change in the underground carpark, with the entrance for the cars being moved nearer the Children’s a village and a new pedestrian entrance/exit closer to the road for quicker access to the town.
The old Fatty Arbuckle’s and the Fun House will possible restaurants, which will be great as they ate eight next to the cinema, so you could have a meal and just pop next door for a film.
Let’s also not forget about the new pedestrian bridge that is currently being constructed in Rhyl Harbour, which should be finished soon.
The only thing I’m not 100% sure about is the Ocean Plaza, this has been surrounded by blue boards for many years now and I don’t even think that the authorities are exactly sure what is supposed to be going there.
It is such a shame that the old Fun Fair was removed from there, I spent a lot of my childhood there and had so much fun, may be it’s a sign of the times and kids these days wouldn’t have bothered with it, but we do have some of the rides in Town after some of them moved.
The overall loom of the future of the seafront area is looking promising and with the right motivation and promotion, with Vue, the aquatic centre (Sun Centre), the Rhyl Pavilion and others all pulling in together and working with each other, it could be the kick up the backside that Rhyl needs.
But lets not forget the town itself, the small shops, those that hold the community together, places such as Relax Coffee Lounge, Flower Tops, Detour and other shops that keep going no matter what.
These places are the ones that have stood by the town and not deserted it, they are all strong members of the community and we have to thank them for showing support for the community.
So don’t forsaken Rhyl just yet, as you can see, Rhyl still has a strong collection of supporters and with the plans for the seafront, I think that Rhyl can return to its glory days as a family friendly seaside resort.
