Honey Club in Rhyl is Making Way for 60-Room Hotel [Photos]

So today I popped in to Rhyl on my morning off and noticed that the Honey Club was on its way to becoming nothing but an empty plot of land, so I grabbed my camera and got some shots in preparation for this very article and then asked a question.

The wrecking crew is finally taking the building down after over a year of the site being screened off protecting the public from the building.

Work on demolishing the Honey Club is expected to last for eight weeks and shouldn’t cause any disruption to the public or surroundings buildings and businesses.

Denbighshire Council say disruption to neighbouring properties in the area will be kept to a minimum with an agreed traffic management plan in place to keep everything flowing through Rhyl.

The contractor that has been given the work of removing the Honey Club will be using part of the Crescent Road car park as a site compound, which will be taken out of use for contract parking while the demolition work is being completed.

With the Honey Club in Rhyl finally coming down it is anticipated that the construction of a new 60-bedroomed hotel by developers Chesham Estates should be September/October 2013, subject to the planning consent required.

Thoughts On The Hotel Coming To Rhyl

So, after I took the photos the other day, I got on to the social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook and put out a question asking people what they thought of the idea of a Hotel coming to Rhyl and I wasn’t really surprised by their replies.

Here is a selection of the comments that I received in regards to the 60-room Hotel:

Toni Roberts-Dawson said “It seems a waste of money to me we have plenty of B&B’s an hotels in Rhyl we don’t need another although we could do with a new attraction maybe an ice rink or bowling alley etc. it’s just going to cause more intimate B&B’s to close down only upside is it might bring more business to the 
Local cinema but I doubt it will bring more business to the town”

Jay Hill Said “I think it’s an awful place to put a hotel there, right in the middle of all the arcades, surely there could be a better use for the site.”

Amanda Hill Said “My thoughts are that if the hotel is affordable and encourages weekend breaks then i think it is going to be a good thing”

Tommy Barron said “… there needs to be something to come to Rhyl for? With the fair gone and shops moving out or shutting down there is no hope, the hotels that are already here are half empty at best, Denbighshire Council have a hell of a lot to answer for, the decisions they gave made over the last few years have been really bad, the new bridge, the fair removal, the Children’s Village with it massive rental ask, they will want a hotel there because regardless of it being empty they will get their business rates! Why don’t they finish the projects they start. I say build a bigger and better fair, put a big crowd attracting ride on it, like the fair with marine lake and pull the people back into Rhyl again!!”

The Feedback Says It All

Suffice to say the majority of the comments I had coming through from Facebook from people living in and around Rhyl were all along the same lines. It seems that Denbighshire Council is making another move that will in the end fall flat on its face, or will it!
