After having escaped the Maze, the Gladers now face a new set of challenges on the open roads of a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.
I remember first seeing mention of The Scorch Trials at the end of the previous movie and thinking to myself, “now that looks pretty good, can’t wait for that to come along“.
So here we are back with the surviving characters as they continue on from the 2014 movie, now that they have escaped the Maze and discover the Scorch, a rather impressive landscape which we get to see as the movie progresses, cities in a state of devastation nicely done specially in the 3D version.
Not only have the “Gladers” got the problem of WCKD (World Catastrophe Killzone Department), they look to teaming up with freedom fighters to help take on and defeat WCKD.
On their journal across the Scorch they come up against “Cranks”, which reminded me of the creatures in World War Z, fast little buggers that just want to eat you, not exactly zombies (we all know Zombies are slow right?).
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, certainly is a lot more action packed that the previous Maze Runner movie, with the action right from the start of the movie, there are many moments throughout where I was on the edge of my seat as the “Gladers” crossed the “Scorch”.
With some rather unnerving scenes making the use of the feeling of height and depth with the 3D, such as a scene inside a skyscraper that has fallen in to another and is falling apart as two “Gladers” run from the “Cranks”, certainly something that those with a fear from heights will feel uneasy with.

I keep wanting to chew off my own fingers ..”]Although The Scorch Trials is action packed, it did seem to leave a lot of questions that we may have had from the first movie unanswered, but with the third movie, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, due out in 2017, then may be a lot of answers will be revealed in the conclusion as Thomas (played by Dylan O’Brien) searches for the cure for the “Flare”.
With some great CGI and landscapes in decay, some action thrown in to the mix, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is a rather fun film, more fun that the previous movie, the 3D is put to good use, although the darker scenes lose out a little on the 3D effect.
Go see this movie if you like movies such as “Divergent” or “The Hunger Games”.
